Cookbook – Lowlands meets Sri Lankan cuisine
This is the cookbook if you like tasty and healthy. The Dutch Kitchen (Lowlands) is blended exquisitely with Sri Lankan cuisine. The cookbook was created as Martine from Avaera missed the exotic Sri Lankan dishes after her return from Sri Lanka. As she is Dutch and also loves fresh and healthy dishes, she thought it would be a good idea to bring the two rather opposite kitchens together.
Together with Kumbuk Cafe in Colombo
She works together with Kumbuk Cafe for the cookbook. Kumbuk Cafe is the place to relax and stay in Colombo if you want to get to know the Sri Lankan cuisine in a relaxed way.
Reinvented Sri Lankan Dishes
The dishes are based on well-known dishes from Sri Lanka with a Dutch touch. The dishes are reinvented and have a 2020 zest with delicious flavor combinations and the health principles of today. In the intro of the cookbook we provide additional information about Ceylon spices in combination with Ayurvedic health basics. In addition we present pragmatics tips to prep these daily recipes during a busy day. This cookbook will give you a reinvented connotation with Dutch and Sri Lankan cuisine.
Dark Food Photography Illustrations
The illustrations accompanying the dishes are based on Dark Food Photography and are derived from Stilllife in paintings used by the old masters such as Caravaggio, Vermeer and Rembrandt. The style is often referred to as clair-obscur photography. It means “light-dark” and shows the contrast between the shadows and the light in an image. The technique leads the viewer’s eye to a specific area in the image and creates a dramatic atmosphere. Mystic Light is another term to describe this dark and melancholic style.
